Attention, Interest, Desire, Action

When designing a website, appealing to the visitor is key to meeting your objective. To the left is a screen shot of the homepage for Darden Concepts Inc. Darden is the world's largest full service restaurant company; the group controls popular national brands such as The Olive Garden and Red Lobster, as well as a number of smaller regional restaurant brands.

A well designed website should immediately capture the attention of the viewer; on Darden Inc's homepage, a clean and professional design immediately draws the viewers eye to the corporate name and logo at the top of the page, as well as a professional, full color slide show of their various brands.

As Darden is a parent company, the majority of their website viewers would likely be individuals seeking corporate information or employment opportunities. The first headline of the homepage displays a simple fact "Darden is the world's largest full-service restaurant company," the viewer's interest is immediately piqued as this simple statement inspires visual images of employment for a large prestigious company.

Capitalizing on growing trends toward environmental and economical sustainability; Darden's website prominently displays a link to "Darden Sustainability," an extensive area of their website demonstrating the company's commitment to sustainable sourcing of products, their supply chains, the environment, and their final product. Immediately below this link is another, to a Fortune Magazine "100 Best Companies to Work For."

Once the reader has gained enough interest to research the company and its sustainability initiatives, the desire to be employed by one of Fortune Magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work For" will lead them to the 'careers' link at the top of the page. By clicking this link, viewers will be re-directed to the appropriate department based on the restaurant they would want to work for and the position they would want to hold.

The Darden homepage is an excellent example of a website that effectively markets its purpose of recruitment of qualified individuals. It's professional design and logical placement of important data and links will be an important asset to the company in its recruitment of future employees.
